Top 10 Handmade Gifts From Cape Breton

Top 10 Handmade Gifts From Cape Breton

Christmas is coming!

The wind is blowing and the Cabot trail leaves have fallen. Craft shows are everywhere and it's hard to pick just a few well made items for those special people in your life.

Here are my top 10 (in no particular order) handmade items that will be sure to thrill this holiday season, all made on this beautiful island:.

1. Anything from the Cape Breton Beard Factory

Hand made in Sydney, these guys know how to treat your face hairs. Great gift boxes and lovely sent, they also have moustache wax and tattoo balm.

2. Phee's Original Goods

My husband has been drooling over these leather goods for as long as we have known about Phee's. Wonderful quality- these bags and wallets will last for years and add a certain something to anyone's daily accessories.

3. A Sweater from The Nurse Who Knits

I know, I know. I'm tooting my own horn on this one but when I tell you these sweaters and buttery soft, you have to believe me. Made with 100% merino wool, kettle dyed in Peru, these sweaters will stand the test of time and are an excellent heirloom piece you can pass down for generations.

4. Candles from Lillian and Company

I don't joke when I say all my candles in my house are from Lillian and Co. INCREDIBLE scents that aren't too overwhelming. Their holiday scents are to die for, figuratively of course. My personal favourite is fireside.

5. Earrings from Crafted By Cortney

Studs and Danglies and colours- oh my! Cortney knows how to create stunning earrings and whimsical designs using clay- so they are super light without compromising on style. She also makes beautiful pendant necklaces.

6. Glenora Distillery Canadian Whisky

What's better than cuddling up by the wood-stove with a glass of whisky? Nothing? We would happily agree. Even better- what about a whisky tour not too far from home? A great adventure gift for the avid whisky drinker or the newbie to boot. They also have a pub and an inn. A great Christmas getaway.

7. Prints from Art By Ash NS

Beautiful floral prints and more. I personally lean to the floral organ paintings, but that's just me. Any of her pieces would be a lovely addition to anyone's home.

8. Adorable Amigurumi from The Well Made Walrus

You will be tickled pink by any of the stunning hand-crocheted animals, mermaids and custom items made by The Well Made Walrus. They also sell crochet patterns so you can make one yourself!

9. Cape Breton Ornaments from Purple Door Creative

This small shop has simplicity in mind. Beautiful Cape Breton ornaments made from wood. These babies are easily shippable and will send the love of your favourite island anywhere in the world.

10. Skin Care from Breton Naturals

From Cuticle Balms to Face Masks, Breton Naturals has you covered when it comes to skin care. Luxurious scents without being overbearing. Natural ingredients and made on-island.

So there you have it! No reason not to support local this holiday season :)
